INTRODUCTION OF HIGH BARRIER TRAY CONCEPT FOR PACKAGED FOOD WITH 24 HOURS SHELF LIFE

The goals of providing this High Barrier Bento Tray packaging is as follows:

  1. Commitment of 24-hour shelf life of our products to clients via the use of high-barrier containers & top seals – which offer high non-permeability towards bacterial/microbial contaminants. This is in contrast to current practices where the food packaging provides little or no protection towards microbial contamination resulting in short shelf life as well as potential food hazard to clients.

  2. Use of food technology to ensure taste, texture and colour of food is preserved and extended by safer margin via Modified Atmosphere Packaging.

Introducing our Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) Pack. Our MRE Pack can cater for 3 food items at a time. The materials used for this packaging would be 4-layer retortable pouch for the condiments, retortable polypropylene (PP) tray for the Rice staple and contained in high temperature resistant PP vessels (up to 120⁰ C) for self-heating purposes. The proposed food supply format would be for long shelf life (2 years);

The objective of the food supply is to provide a comprehensive menu in the style of Western, traditional Malaysian and Northern Indian Fusion.

MRE packs provide a simple and convenient approach for consumers to enjoy ready- made meals which can be re-heated without the hassle of electricity or fire. This self-heating (optional) MRE consists of a self-heating element which allows consumers to easily heat up any type of cooked food up to 120°C within minutes by adding water into a polypropylene (“PP”) food container which holds the self-heating element.

What is MRE?

The Meal, Ready-to-Eat – commonly known as the MRE – is a self-contained, individual field ration in lightweight packaging popularized by the United States military for its service members for use in combat or other field conditions where organized food facilities are not available in the 1960s. The functional benefits of MRE are the long shelf life and ready to consume ability, but not much on the taste buds. However, MRE has been in continual development since its introduction, with the expansion of more entrée options and larger serving sizes. Fast forward to 2017, there is event Gourmet MRE produced by the French!

RTE Foods is inspired by the MRE concept where convenience and hygiene are valued, but with extra focus on the food taste and consumers’ experience. We want to emulate the French and come out with our very own Malaysian gourmet MRE, straight from the pack!
